Jessie J video

Jessie J video

Cinematography
In jessie J's video she use's the camera to create lot of different effects, in the video the camera zooms in on her and shakes around a lot this is done to show anger also it is very fast paced and changes between clips very fast.
Mise En Scene
In the music video she uses lots of different props, cloths, make up and actors. For most of the video she is wearing quite revealing cloths, this is to try and get more views. Also she has lots of dark backgrounds.

The Eyedropper tool

On photo shop I learnt how to use the Eyedropper tool. The Eyedropper tool is used to select a colour that you have already used so this tool would come in handy when you are changing the colours in an image because you will always be able to get the same shade of colour that you want. When I was creating my logo I used lots of different shades of green so I found this tool very useful because it allowed me to use the correct shades of green in the right place.

representation 2

In many rap videos women have no identity except as sexual playthings and "eye candy"

I agree with this statement because in many videos the women are there because they look good and would attract young men therefore they are seen as eye candy. Furthermore this will teach young men that girls are just sex toys as the videos get worse and will make them represent the women like this till videos become less sexual. Also having girls in videos doing sexual things will be influenced on the younger generation.

'These images do provide pleasures to some viewers. But the concern is that men may internalise the notion that women are nothing more than sexual objects waiting to be used.

I believe some of this statement is true as a fair amount of men will agree and see women as nothing more than sexual objects. A majority of viewers will only be watching it for the women where as some of them are just watching for the music. These rap videos influence the older generation as well as the younger generation with lots of nude scenes that make people will almost definitely make people think that girls as "sexual object waiting to be used".

These sorts of images are not unique to hip hop. Objectified female bodies are everywhere. They appear throughout our culture in films, advertisements, television programmes etc. However, within music videos, this is virtually the ONLY vision of women available.

I disagree that these sort of images are not unique to hip hop because there are loads of other places where you can find girls similar to these, for example in the film Horrible Bosses, Jennifer Aniston in the film plays are part that she is very sexual towards men, her movement is seductive and provocative and this film is only a 12 rating therefore many young children would be able to see what a stereotypical women is now and could see her behaving in a very sexual way. In the new Gilette advert there are two women in small clothing giving another stereotypical and negative representation towards women. In the programme Geordie Shore the girls are always wanting to pull men and have sex with them, this will tell the younger audience that girls always want to have sex and that to men they are just objects, this shows many different ways where young men can see what women are now represented as.

Photoshop research task

When I used photo shop I learnt how to use the magic wand tool, it is used to select part of an image so you can edit part of it without effecting the rest of the picture. I mainly used it to change the colours in a picture.

representation of 50 Cent and Jay Z videos

Hip hop presents a very rigid and narrow version of manhood - one that suggests that to be a "real man" you must be strong and tough, you must have a lot of women and money, you must always be in control, and you must always dominate women and other men.

50 Cent - This video contain lots of money, fast cars and fur coats this presents him as being very wealthy. In the video there are lots of half naked girls dancing because he is trying to show that he is a "real man" and that he is strong and dominate over the women. In his video he uses himself as a stereotype by having lots of girls around him to show his dominance over the women, also he is the only man in the video.

Jay Z - This video is very similar to the 50 Cent one because the are lots of half naked girls dancing round him, this is so that he can show that he is strong and dominant. Jay Z wants to appear dominant in he video so people think that he is a "real man" and he gets lots of girls. Also in the music video he has massive boats and lots of nice cloths to show people that he is very rich.

If you do not live up to these ideals, you will be ridiculed for not being man enough. You will be called names like "soft, weak and wimp".

50 Cent - I don't think that this statement is entirely true because they don't need girls in there videos to get views and the video should be more about the song than the girls in the video. Also videos without lots of girls in still get lots of views and no one calls them "soft, weak or a wimp".

Jay Z - Again, it is very similar to the other video because the girls in the video are not completely necessary to get lots of views and the person in the video isn't called and of the things listed in the statement above.
